Description

“Inside there are two rooms. You are in one. Holding your dirty laundry. They are in the other. Waiting for you.”

Laundry was the second installment of the Monto Cycle exploring the social history of a quarter-mile area in Dublin’s North inner city. In an Ireland whose collective consciousness was reeling from the exposition of institutions, we opened the door to the Gloucester Street Magdalene Convent and invited audiences three at a time on a challenging, stimulating, and thought-provoking journey.   It played for over 200 performances, was critically acclaimed, and sold-out throughout its run, it formed the centrepiece of a key programming strand of the 2011 Dublin Theatre Festival entitled ‘Behind Closed Doors’.  Laundry won the prestigious Best Production Award at this year’s Irish Times Theatre Awards where director Louise Lowe was also nominated for Best Director.

Directed by Louise Lowe.  Designed by Owen Boss.  Lighting Design by Sarah Jane Shiels, Sound Design by Vincent Doherty.  Cast: Dee Burke, Una Kavanagh, Stephen Murray, Barbara Ni Haodha, Eric O’Brien, Niamh Shaw, Zara Starr.

Laundry was supported by Fishamble: The New Play Company’s New Play Clinic scheme, CREATE, and Rough Magic Hub.
