Description

The Lander Division of the Centre for Astrobiology is responsible for exploring the outer realms of the galaxy. No division goes further or deeper into the unknown.

Tasked with discovering unchartered territories, exploring the outermost reaches and bringing back valuable data to the mothership.

A week ago, the crew of Lander 23 vanished while harvesting a new and valuable energy source. A distress signal then silence.

You are the next crew in.

Your mission is clear – continue their job without the same happening to you.
Time is not on your side. The environment is treacherous. There are hidden dangers lurking in the shadows. Do not deviate from the mission.

Launch. Evade all threats; work with your comrades to prioritize
energy extraction and return to base.

Search. Immediate deployment – locate and secure  energy sources.

Survive. Uncharted planet, landing site coordinates classified.

Program details
LANDER 23 is a multiplayer stealth game that splits you into two squads – Command (Drivers) and Ground Team (Fields). As the Fields navigate the alien landscape, you’ll rely solely on the voice and guidance of your Drivers, stationed aboard the ship. Communication is your lifeline.

LANDER 23 is a live action video game – a fusion of gaming and theatre where the audience become the protagonist of a real life video game: instead of sitting on the sofa in front of your TV, what would happen if you threw away your controller and stepped inside the game? With genuine agency and true video game mechanics, LANDER 23 promises to be the next generation of immersive experience.

You will enter the experience and will be given a vest and headphones to wear. There will be versions of the vest to cater to different access requirements – please contact our Box Office team for more information.

Please note that bags of any size are not permitted in the experience; a cloak room is in operation and any personal mobile devices must either be left in your bag or safely stored on your person. Mobile devices and smart watches must be switched off for the experience. You will be moving around the space for the majority of the experience.

Description

Cascando by Pan Pan Theatre is an outdoor experience, transforming Samuel Beckett's 1963 radio play into a physical journey. Directed by Gavin Quinn, the production leads the audience on a rhythmic ensemble experience, wearing black cloaks and headphones and becoming part of the spectacle.

In this version, Irish actors Andrew Bennett (as Voice) and Daniel Reardon (as Opener) lead the audience through a series of atmospheric landscapes. The play’s slow, deliberate pace mirrors the struggle of Voice, who is caught between trying to finish a story and the impossibility of completing it. The absence of performers other than the two actors creates an eerie feeling of isolation, making the audience feel like they, too, are part of Beckett’s wandering narrative.

Pan Pan’s adaptation emphasises the themes of uncertainty and existential struggle present in Beckett’s original work. The vast outdoors, paired with Jimmy Eadie’s intense sound design, allows the audience to experience the piece as an immersive reflection on the futility of progress, much like Beckett's original radio play. Pan Pan’s Cascando blurs the line between performer and spectator, inviting the audience to walk alongside Beckett’s characters in a contemplative pilgrimage.

Noteworthy Attributes

With no visual performers other than voices, the performance uses space, sound and movement, and atmosphere to engage the audience in a reflective exploration of memory, time and isolation, offering a deeply personal experience in the immensity of our reality through the embodiment.

In every window a world shimmers. From a busy street, you are invited to make an intimate connection. A new live piece between film, installation and theatre, WINDOW A WORLD asks what happens when we listen and look in.

Choy-Ping Clarke-Ng 吳彩萍 is a Hong Kong-Irish theatre maker and designer of set, costume and video. They are a graduate of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and were awarded the Linbury Prize for Stage Design. Previous work includes WHERE ARE YOU FROM? (Abbey Theatre) and WANDER WANDER WILD WILD 遊遊野野, as part of Rough Magic's Rough Weekend (Project Arts Centre). Choy-Ping is a recipient of the Arts Council Next Generation Award 2022.

Mount Average is about the struggle of how we deal with the past and how history carved in stone becomes a problem today.

Mount Average is a factory that works with monuments of leaders, politicians and intellectuals. From Leopold II, to Hitler or Colbert. The monuments are the “raw material” for a process of transformation. Mount Average is a highly efficient factory that produces nothing. It is about an ongoing process of creating and deconstructing. About doing and not doing. About finding and letting go. The factory sets a process in motion that revolves around becoming.

In this factory, the audience, groups of four people at a time, dispatched every 15 minutes, are led on a tour where they have different encounters in every room. The tour is guided by audio that switches between live and recorded sound, depending on the room, that is fed to a mobile receiver with headphones that the audience is given before the beginning of the tour. Some portions of the tour are hands on, while others only require listening or witnessing.

On 10 May 2019 Holly Herndon released her third full-length album 'PROTO'. While the album isn’t about A.I., much of it was created in collaboration with her own A.I. ‘baby’, Spawn.

Spawn is an artificial neural network developed in partnership with long time collaborator Mathew Dryhurst and ensemble developer Jules LaPlace. You can hear traces of Spawn throughout the album, and listen in on live training ceremonies conducted in Berlin, in which hundreds of people were gathered to teach Spawn how to identify and reinterpret unfamiliar sounds in group call-and-response singing sessions.

'PROTO' makes reference to what Holly refers to as the protocol era, where rapidly surfacing ideological battles over the future of A.I. protocols, centralised and decentralised internet protocols, and personal and political protocols compel us to ask ourselves who are we, what are we, what do we stand for, and what are we heading towards?
